| [22-Oct-2009] | Slumlord Alert ! The five months we lived in this guy's property were five months much too long. This guy is a slumlord. Even though we left the apartment is spotless condition and he admitted that there was no damage requiring attention, he refuses to refund the security deposit. He has also done this to other tenants, and does so under the "protection" of being incorporated as Accord Stone Holdings, LLC. Talking to him requires a patience I do not possess and spent most of my time wondering when, if ever, he'd get to the point. At times, we found ourselves wondering how he functioned as a human being, since a simple issue often required an hour-long phone conversation... and still didn't get resolved. His repairs on the apartment were haphazard at best, and when we had flooding, it was a week before he called me back and he never came to check out the damage. His use of shoddy plumbers on the second floor led to not one, but two, waterfalls in our living room. We had an issue with an inconsiderate jerk of a neighbor who played music so loud that the whole apartment would shake, and despite repeated complaints, nothing was ever done about the issue. Likewise, when the same neighbor decided to park in the lot taking up two or three spaces at a time, the landlord decided to ignore the problem. Basically, this guy doesn't care about the quality of tenants as long as he's making his buck. When our apartment was burglarized, he did arrive promptly on the premises, but he shut the window that the crooks had used BEFORE the cops arrived. When the cops asked if anything had been touched, they were astonished that he'd done something so thoughtless. Naturally, the crime was never solved. He also refused to take additional security measures, even though we requested that he do so. Simple measures like window locks and proper lighting in the outside areas might have convinced us to sign a renewal lease, but his complete disregard for our safety prompted us to move out. When we broached the issue of using our security deposit ($1600!!!) as our last month's rent, his response was to threaten to evict us and basically make our lives hell. He assured us that he'd get us our security deposit back after moving out, but has turned quite nasty since we moved out and does not sign for certified mail. When he showed the apartment to new tenants while I was still in the building, he blatantly lied, severely underestimating the costs of utilities in the apartment. (Citing $200 a month in a apartment that tops $600 in heating costs in the winter due to drafty windows that he also didn't repair as requested.) Does not answer phone, does not return phone calls in a timely manner. I would NEVER in a million years rent from this guy again. If he were the last landlord on earth, I'd be happily living in my tent as far away from him as possible. We're currently suing him and would sincerely warn anyone from renting with him. Renter Beware! |
