| [04-Jul-2014] | I rented from Absar Bhatti back in 2001-2003. Needless to say, he remained in my mind all these years as the most unethical, dishonest, and thoroughly disgusting individual I have ever had contact with in my life. And given that I work in international development, auditing US foreign assistance to Third World countries to assess how much of our taxpayer dollars are wasted and stolen by corrupt foreign politicians, that says a lot. Absar lies about everything, all the time, to everyone (including small claims court judges, under oath... he has no problem at all perjurying himself in order to try to make you lose your inevitable court claim against him). Do not believe a single word this person says to you. If he tells you it's a sunny day, go outside and check for rain. When I rented from him, water damage from the apartment above opened up a 4 ft by 5 ft, massive hole in my ceiling right above the shower, from which electrical wires and plumbing protruded, and plaster and cement dust poured out of regularly. This went unfixed, despite probably 40-50 calls and emails to him about it, from the time it opened up, until the day I moved out. All his promises to fix it were complete lies. Then, an amateur repairman hired by Absar dopped a pane of glass he was trying to install into a 2nd floor hallway window on my car parked below. Absar and this guy went downstairs and brushed all the broken glass off my car (scratching it further) and then pretended like nothing ever happened. I asked Absar about it and he lied and said he knew nothing about it. Then I ran into the repairman a week or so later and asked him about it, and he told me the whole story. Unbelieveable. I then asked Absar to pay for the damage and, predictably, he refused. I decided enough was enough and I moved out. Absar refused to return my security deposit, and had the bull-sized balls to blame me for the gaping hole in my bathroom ceiling. Like I'm somehow standing on a footstool, lifting a jackhammer over my head and drilling enormous holes in my bathroom ceiling for fun. I had to take him to small claims court for the damage to my car and to get my security deposit back. If you're considering renting from Absar, assess how much you love small claims court. Because if you don't want to be taken to the cleaners by him, you WILL be spending time there. So if you have a strong love of spending dozens of hours (if not a hundred plus hours, plus court fees) in a completely unnecessary and ridiculous small claims suit, this is the right landlord for you. On the date of our session, Absar shows up late, in jeans and a T-shirt, and tells the judge he apologizes for his lateness and appearance, but starts crying (literally faking tears and fake sobbing... it was totally ridiculous) that this mother in Pakistan is terminally I'll, so, because he's so wrapped up in supporting her long distance, this is why he couldn't give me the attention I needed. But then he proceeded to call all of my claims false. What a complete piece of human garbage. In the end, I won for my security deposit, but lost for my car (my insurance had to cover it). I left that apartment and that experience and chalked it up as a very costly, but valuable life lesson. In assessing risk from dealing with people who are complete ethical vacuums. So amusing to see, 8-10 years later, people still having the exact same experiences with him. Stay away from this person. Not sure why this person hasn't ended up spending time in jail (or I dunno, maybe he has), but Absar is basically a criminal predator with an apartment for rent. To him, you aren't his next tenant, you are his next victim. Stay away from him! |
