[20-Jun-2019] This landlord did not disclose that mold possibly was present before we moved in. Over the years, property owner sent workers to repair pipe leaks, but did not properly address wet wood. In 2017, we discovered the washer machine drain pipe leaked, leading to a strong moldy odor. Property owner said this happened before. Property owner sent workers who made minor repairs and did not address the mold. I was directed to use the adjacent sink for the washer drain. I had mold testing done, but landlord did not follow repair recommendations. After many months of respiratory illness, swollen lymph nodes, COPD diagnosis, I became very sick with lymphoma and went to NY for treatment, my children moved for college, and my husband stayed. When I returned, it took a few months for me to realize the mold was making me (and my children during visits) feel sick. I brought it to the attention of the property owner who said if I got her estimates, she would do repairs. I got another mold inspection, which found several molds over 10x the levels outdoors. Property owner sent her worker to pull out and paint over mold locations and scheduled her own mold inspection, which still found mold in the air. Instead of doing proper mold removal, she had her worker paint over the entire walls with probable mold inside. We have been lucky that we could move into the guesthouse. This is still ongoing, and we plan to move, but we want to make sure city and county health are aware of this, so future residents are not exposed to this unhealthy indoor environment. Mold inspections found additional mold areas that property owner said happened 20 years ago. Property owner also never repaired electric operated gate to property, which should have been done per the original lease |
