[26-Jun-2019] Jenna (and by extension her mother Linda) was not the best landlord, however she was not the worst either. When she was late getting the cost of the utility bills to us, she did give us an extension. If there was something that needed fixing, she said she'd get it fixed but then it would take her awhile (her excuse was that she was busy but she usually wasn't) or it would never get done.
My biggest issue was when I went to move out. Everything was (I thought) fine until I wanted my deposit back. I did the cleaning to what I thought they wanted. I was not provided a cleaning checklist so I could only go off of Jenna saying her mom (who would be doing the checkout) was strict. After I had turned in my key (they insisted that I turn it in before I got my deposit back), I was told that they would be deducting $50 from my deposit as I had not properly cleaned. Instead of giving me a chance to come back and clean what I had allegedly missed, Linda just cleaned it and then told me she was deducting from my deposit for what she called "unusual wear and tear". She even sent me pictures to prove she was "right". However, all the pictures proved was that the things I had "missed" was some dust and dirt. I repeatedly tried explaining to her that dust and dirt are normal wear and tear and that she should have called me to clean anything I missed. Linda refused to listen and even went so far as to tell me to hire a lawyer if I felt she was being unfair.
I opted not to contact a lawyer, as I didn't see the point of doing so to get $50 back.
If you ever end up renting from either Jenna or her mother Linda, please take my advice and take pictures before you move in and get a cleaning checklist. Please learn from my mistakes. |
