[01-Sep-2020] Jim Adams was initially helpful and accommodating, but has very little understanding of landlord tenant laws - didn't do a damages checklist before collecting our deposit, put the deposit in his personal bank acct (and probably spent it), and tries to get tenants to do repairs rather than hiring a professional. He also lived in a shed on the back of the property, which isn't up to code for habitation and he has no legal right to do. The last couple of months of our tenancy (which lasted 1 year) he got extremely erratic and unprofessional, frequently trespassed, and refused to comply with our tenants rights. It all escalated because a few months prior we said that we wanted to have a strictly professional relationship and not have personal conversations (which sometimes occured, as he lived in the shed out back). He's a lonely dude who had a massive tantrum because we didn't want to be friends.
Upon moving out the neighbors from multiple houses told us that this behavior is typical of him and tenants often don't stay beyond 1 year. They also said he has been creepy when women rent the house by themselves.
If you rent here, my advise is to engage with Jim as little as possible and to move in with clear boundaries set (and all the right paperwork). He might just get upset that you don't want to be his friend though, and make your life miserable.
As for the house itself, I really liked it. Main issue is problems with multiple appliances. I would make sure you do the damages walk through and check the condition of all the appliances. |
