[02-Sep-2021] Unfortunately, This has been the worst experience/renters I’ve dealt with so far. I started renting from Michelle and Andre December and January of 2020/21. They had a short term lease available and this was perfect for me to try out the area of st Pete. Michelle had a very strict no pet policy so I was actively looking elsewhere when my lease was coming to a close. My parents had been taking care of my dog during this time. Michelle and Andre both had collectively made the decision to break their own rule because they wanted me to rent back long term (I kept the space clean and was respectful) and wrote in my updated lease that it can include my small dog (house trained, doesn’t shed, ESA).
Initially we had a verbal agreement that I would be renting May 2021- May 2022. Michelle had forgotten she rented to another future tenant that had already put a down payment so my stay was now May 2021-January 2022. This was unfortunate because I wanted to remain in the heart of downtown through the high seasons of New Years and Easter. Nonetheless, I continued to move forward with the new lease.
Upon my arrival, they had forgotten that my small dog was cleared to stay. One occasion, Michelle and Andre came to my door for WiFi adjustments I witnessed her temper lash out. Michelle was furious and said I wasn’t allowed to have the dog here. She was so enraged that I couldn’t manage to get a word in trying to explain they put the pet in my lease. They both left with the cable person nervously standing there and closed the door disregarding everything I was trying to explain. I had to send her a screenshot of my lease to remind her but our sour interaction had already concluded.
Over the course of 3 months Michelle has over stepped her boundaries by means of showing up unannounced, harassment about the dog (because of her own influences toward animals), and questions about my living choices. Some examples include: the couple entering and demanding I put a mask on in my own space (not prepared and in my pjs brushing my teeth), asking why I was or wasn’t using some of their immenities while standing in the space, and once I heard my lock and handle attempt to open/jiggle when I was about to shower.
I would have happily continued to look for alternative renting options had they not been so persuasive to invite me (and the dog back.) I have never been so stressed out trying to actively mind my own business but felt like I’m constantly being watched and micromanaged. I highly recommend looking elsewhere when searching for a long term lease and I wholeheartedly regret that our relationship turned for the worse. |
