[22-Jun-2022] In the month of February 2022 the boiler for our building stopped working. In the 5 years we have lived here the boiler always has an issue when the winter season comes, won't start goes off comes on etc. When a professional came and advised the owner of the situation the landlord stated and I quote " I think I will wait till the summer to replace the unit" after a professional told him that is was impossible to repair as the unit was 30 years old an no parts were available. He wanted to hunt for parts rather than see his longtime and on time paying tenants through out the pandemic had heat. We spoke with him and stated he was legally bound to provide us heat. We were without heat on and off for two solid weeks. Upon lease renewal, he sent us a certified letter stating he was ending our lease and initially tried to use a 60 day move out period rather than the customary 90 day period which he corrected after we pointed this out to him. Upon receiving the end of lease note we called him and asked why he did this to us and he stated we mentioned the word LEGAL during the issue with the boiler and that we were threatening him. This man is unstable he speaks calmly to you one minute then is screaming and threatening you the next. We did not know of him when we rented the apt we met hsi son and only his son who was cordial but when we asked for repairs to be done, mainly an in the wall AC unit which had black mold and did not work, his son pushed us to his father who he stated owned the property which is in NY but he lived in Florida. What has ensued over the years are numerous water leaks , persistent leaks from the upstairs bathrooms and one major one which saw a whole remediation team come to replace the cheap laminate floors with cheap vinyl faux wood ones. Another conversation with the landlord happened as we are having a very hard time finding a new place to live as the market is off balance and very competitive the landlord stated he could get 3000 a month for this apartment we currently pay 1968. My reasoning behind this rating is to WARN OTHERS of the maneuvers of this landlord Joe Sclafani. His aim is to collect money and to never deal with the tenant nor solve their issues promptly and correctly. As of today we are over run with mice as is every years as there are holes and gaps in the floor boards and walls allowing vermin to enter. He will get an exterminator here but never address the structural issues.
