[13-May-2023] Steve's actions have shown him to be an incredibly cheap and lazy landlord. He does the bare minimum so that on the surface he can claim he's not negligent (e.g. he does respond to requests in a reasonable time but doesn't actually resolve them). He's one of those landlords who treats you as his personal piggy bank, charging way too much to rent what ends up being a run-down house that will only be improved when it comes out of your security deposit.
He'll find any excuse not to fix an appliance, gaslighting you about it not working even though everyone in the house has to deal with it for months. If you spend the effort to tell him 4+ times that it's not working he'll replace it with one that looks like it came from a junkyard... and that one doesn't work either.
He also does all the repairs himself, which means he does an incredibly half-ass job that is good enough to satisfy him but way below the par of a professional.
He won't communicate when he shuts off utilities because he'll claim you "weren't home" because there wasn't a car in the driveway, and he won't give any warning when he digs up the entire yard, piling dirt and rubble on your garden and throwing away your stuff claiming "it was from the previous tenant".
There have been a few times where he's lied in very obvious ways, like in one sentence saying our call "went to spam" on his iPhone, and the next saying "it was vibrating and vibrating" when we were trying to contact him about him actively digging up our yard, which he STILL hadn't actually told us about at that point.
The most baffling parts are when it would be so easy for him to communicate, but instead he makes completely unfounded assumptions. He's not an idiot, he just puts on a friendly face and plays dumb in every way that is advantageous to him. |
