[30-Sep-2010] Would never rent from this landlord again. Repairs promised over a year and a half ago never happened, and twice we had plumbing problems fixed out of our own pockets because we simply did not trust him to effect timely and accurate repairs were we to speak up and request repairs. A rent increase without 60 days written notice was also a problem (it was 30 days verbally, and we feel advantage was taken of the fact that at the time we did not realize our rights to written notice as per city statutes). We did not leave the apartment often due to distrust and fear of further invasion of our privacy while absent from the premises. Multiple requests were made as well to deal with a noisy neighbor, and our requests were brushed off and otherwise ignored with the excuse that it's an old building. When requested to move due to renovation prior to sale, 1) a new tenant renting only the week before was never notified, we had to be the ones to break the news 2) he claimed he wanted an inspection, when no such request was ever made by either him or his wife. While packing to move out, we found old cracks in the walls in one closet with evidence of prior repair, when we had been told that this building had not had such problems in the past. This only scratches the surface of our distrust and dismay over the situation, and while we are disappointed that moving is not entirely on our own terms, we are certainly glad to be leaving and will not be renting from him ever again, and would strongly recommend against the same.
