[06-Aug-2011] We thought things had been going very well until move out day. In a conversation a couple days before moveout, my roommate and I had thought Jane told us we needed to be out by 6pm Aug. 1 and had gotten an extension because the house was not going to be occupied by tenants. As it turns out, we were mistaken and Jane wanted us out at 6 pm on Sunday. However, Jane saw us moving out on Sunday evening and did not say a word. It wasn't until the next morning that we saw she had sent an angry text at 1am saying we were supposed to have been out of the house and that she expected us out by noon. Confused, we knocked on her door and were ignored. We then tried to call her, but she didn't answer. I texted her and she texted back a couple hours later giving us an extension until she got back from work. When she came home she was furious. She avoided us and went into the basement. We had been waiting to do the walk through with her. When we realized she wasn't going to come get us, we asked her. She was storming around the apartment and slamming doors. She said that she was going to deduct from our deposit for the infraction. She was also incredibly rude to my parents who were there helping me moveout. She was very immature. We tried to reason with her and explain that we did not mean to inconvenience her and we truly did not know. She got angry and said that because I was "arguing" with her that I was causing the deduction to go up. This was not the way to handle a business relationship. I can understand if she was mad that we didn't move out on time, but there are many things she could have done - and in a much more polite way - to resolve the issue than what she did. We had been good tenants, she even admitted that. Apparently it wasn't enough for her to be a bit more gracious toward us. This hadn't been the first time she had dealt with a situation passively. She had randomly gotten upset a handful of times throughout the year, but not like move out day. The house is nice, but it was not worth that last day. |
