[28-Jul-2006] This was the worst landlord I've ever had. Everything was fine when we moved in. The only requests we made were that our mailbox lock was fixed (the lock was broken and the mailbox wouldn't even shut, our mail got stolen all the time). The other request was that we got bars on the windows that didn't have them. I lived there for a year and the landlord never fixed either of these things. Any time I would talk to him or the super they would tell me they'd get around to it and nothing happened. Eventually we got robbed because someone broke into a window without bars on it (we lived on the ground floor). We requested bars on the windows several more times to the landlord and the super in person and in writing. Under New York state law a landlord has to put bars on the windows if a tennant requests it. Anyway the landlord kept telling us he'd get around to it. A month later we got robbed again. I called the landlords office about fifty times. The guy was always impossible to get ahold of. I was able to talk to him several times and he kept telling me he'd get back to me. Finally I got him on the phone the third or fourth time and demanded he put bars on our windows right away and this is when he told me he had no intention of doing it and it wasn't his responsibility. He also refused to let us out of our lease without penalty. And he refused to even fix the one window that wasn't even fully connected to the wall. the glass was basically leaning against the window pane. Do not ever rent from this landlord. He might seem perfectly nice when your looking at the apartment, but he's completely negligent in every way. The super doesn't do anything, and the building is incredibly easy to break into.
