[28-May-2012] This landlord was not honest about the parking situation at this apartment. He originally told us that there was plenty of on street parking. It turned out you needed to buy a parking pass from the city in order to park on the street, and when we tried to purchase one, we found we could not because our car's were not registered to the property. In order to rectify this situation I was forced to transfer the title of the car from my parents into my own name, pay the taxes on it, get on my own insurance plan in Massachusetts, register it in Massachusetts, change the plates, and have an inspection test, on top of paying for the parking pass. When I expressed the concern to my landlord about the process and also the expense, he told me "Your car Your Problem" by text.
In addition to the parking dishonesty, this landlord also felt no sense of urgency to fix any problem that we were having in the apartment, despite living just upstairs. Our toilet had never functioned correctly and was constantly breaking. When we would contact him for help he would tell us he would be by soon, than after 5 hours or more we would call again and he would say he would be right there. 3 or more hours would go by and still nothing. The only time we can get him to actually show up is when we offer the solution of hiring a plumber and taking the expense out of our rent, than he finds the availability to rush over.
During November he left the country for over 2 weeks and had the heat turned off. The only way to turn the heat back on is to enter through the basement which he keeps locked. While he was away he also left us no information on who to contact in the event there be an issue (such as no heat in the middle of the Winter), and when he returned he made no mention of the problem despite multiple calls and text messages.
Over all I would highly recommend against living in this apartment under this landlord. He is very dishonest about when he will be showing up to fix things, and does not fix things well. He also makes many promises (such as replacing a missing section of counter space or replacing a refridgerator door handle before we signed the lease), and does not follow through with them unless you request that attention be brought to the issue multiple times per week. You are better off moving somewhere where the landlord respects the tenants and does not try to avoid making repairs or fixing problems, and is honest. |
