[26-Jul-2012] After the toilet stopped up because there was no plunger on the property, the landlord waited two days then brought us a plunger, which we had assured them would not solve the problem and did not; the landlord did not bring somebody out to fix the problem for another five full days.
The landlord amended the original terms of the lease with no warning and no choice offered tenants but to either "sign the new lease or get out."
The house was in a state of disrepair when I arrived, with cobwebs in the bathroom and the kitchen, grime buildup in one of the bathrooms which must have predated my arrival by easily weeks if not months, crumbs in the carpet and various other obvious hygeine-related problems.
When I expressed my concerns to the landlord, I was told "this is how it is." No attempts were made to fix these problems.
The landlord kicked me out for not being able to follow the unreasonable terms of the amended contract, which had been amended with my consent coerced via the simple fact that it was the middle of the month and it was my parents' name on the lease; I had nowhere else to go. The landlord demanded I leave after giving me approximately half an hour to pack my belongings, then expressed
"concern" three hours later that I had nowhere else to go. Luckily my friend was able to pick me up and willing to do so, but had that not been the case, the landlord's actions would have certainly resulted in complete disaster for me.
My parents, by the way, were at that point in another country altogether with twelve hours' time difference; my parents therefore were not able to register their protests over this treatment of their daughter until it was much too late and I was already gone from the property.
All of my concerns about the property, I might add, were met with the same blank-eyed 'what can WE do about it?' look from the landlord. The situation was simply unhygenic as well as being highly unprofessional. Never rent from these fools.
As it turns out: doe-eyed young women with no clue how to run their business make terrible landlords. It doesn't matter how "nice" they are; they don't have a clue what they are doing.
Six weeks later I'm finally getting the remainder of my deposit back, with zero communication from them on the matter I might add despite me as well as my parents calling weekly in hopes of receiving some update on the matter.
Rent from these fools at your own peril.
Good luck. |
