[23-Nov-2012] My roommates and I had probably the worst experience a first sublet experience one could have. Upon moving in, no cleaning was completed, and he mentioned he would have it cleaned within the week. Weeks go by of us reminding him and nothing ever happened. I'm extremely allergic to mold and there was a severe infestation in the shower. I let him no of the black mold and he refused to fix it, or pay for my expenses to fix it. I ended up having to completely tear out the shower and install a new shower on my own budget, as well as recaulk all the floor tiles. I was never reimbursed. The laundry was $5 per load, prior to moving in he said it was $1. We had a leak from the apartment above us that resulted in literally an 8 ft diameter section of the ceiling to fall from the sky, destroying our tv. After many months of fighting, he refused to fix the ceiling, as well as pay for a new tv and fix the leak. We had a mouse and cockroach infestation that he bought us TWO mousetraps to handle it. He drives a huge Hummer and is a reckless driver, loved to park in the middle of our parking lot and disappear for hours so no one could pull out their own cars. At the end of the lease, we spent 2 days cleaning the apartment to make it look unbelievably clean, miles beyond what it was prior to moving in. We get a bill saying that the total bill for cleaning of the apartment was way more than what all of our deposits combined were worth, but he would be a 'nice guy' and not make us pay extra. We fought this as his issues weren't even for our apartment, and basically told us that if we were to take him to court, he would destroy us. He's an awful landlord and is the epitome of a slum lord.
In the end, he's a lawyer that uses his power to his advantage to take advantage of genuine human beings. |
