[26-Nov-2012] Looks good on the outside - stinks on the inside. Issues include bedbugs - seriously folks bedbugs! How do I know? Because I have them. My lease says the management will treat for pests. They sent in an exterminator that did a horrible job as evidenced by still having bedbugs. Then the management had the audacity to put a notice on my door telling me to sign a lease addendum agreeing to pay their exterminator bill. I notified them that they were in breach of contract and I would be depositing my rent into escrow. Beyond that issue, there are infestations of ants in some apartments not adequately treated, and black mold which has not been mitigated. When I reported mold, the manager told me to just clean it off with some clorox. I refused, and they did remove that area of drywall and replace it, but the east side of both buildings has fissures and a HUGE black mold problem. My windows don't fit properly. The screens have holes in them. During the last storm (Hurricane Sandy's tail) the heating duct in my son's room blew out of the wall, landing on his head and cutting him. Beyond that the management is unpleasant and often rude or patronizing. It took 18 months to get a towel rack hung properly in my bathroom. The apartment carpeting is so inferior in quality it never looks clean, despite my paying to have it cleaned. I have personally seen the FBI here in flak vests. Don't move into this apartment - the stress will drive you crazy. I am moving at the end of my lease. I will have to pay a fortune to heat treat my furnishings so as not to carry bedbugs to my new apartment. And, rumor has it that Shoregate is notorious for not returning your deposit. I wouldn't wish this place on my worst enemy.
