[16-Apr-2013] Arie Ben-Dor took a deposit from us and verbally confirmed he was choosing our application for tenancy. He then asked for a great deal more of supporting information from each applicant (photocopies of IDs, guarantor forms, guarantor proof of employment and income, mortgage statements, references, job letters) in addition to what had already been given. While trying to contact him about this information, he avoided phone calls for 3 or 4 days at a time. After two weeks, he told us he had still been showing the place and had just received another application he preferred. For two weeks, he held our deposit in his bank account while explicitly indicating we had the place.
This landlord cannot be trusted to communicate promptly, fairly or fully. Rent from him at your own peril, but make sure to sign a lease within 4 days of giving him your deposit. Despite having received another application he had already chosen to accept, he ran our credit checks 9 days later and charged us for them in case the other tenants backed out. Although the renting game is competitive, his unprofessional, scheming conduct is deliberately deceiving. His actions caused us to miss out on other houses for rent.
Arie Ben-Dor avoids problems by not responding to text messages, phone calls, voicemails and email. His childlike, double handed behaviour should be a red flag for any potential tenants in the future. Imagine trying to get a hold of him because of flooding when he doesn't respond for days.
Lastly, the place he was renting had zero fire protection measures, no fire detectors, no fire extinguisher and no inspection records. He had no intention of installing fire detectors until we expressed our concern. |
