[20-Jul-2007] Mr. Erwin made promises that things in the apt would be fixed. 2 months after moving in we left the country for 3 weeks. we told him he would have the opportunity to fix the door, toilet, sink, lights, garbage disposal and front steps. we came back with nothing fixed. he got angry that we wanted it all done right away after getting back. we left again for three weeks (9 months into the lease) and came back to an eviction notice because the rent got screwed up while we were out of the country (getting married). he told us he was ending our lease 2 months early. we told him that we were not going to leave. he then said that if we screwed up at all he would evict again. "screwing up" consisted of having an overgrown garden (thats what tomatos are supposed to do - grow - not to mention we were gone for 3 weeks), a clothes line that we left up (that was his in the first place), a noise complaint in a 150 year old house where you can hear phone conversation clearly from floor to floor, and the first late payment in 9 months. although our lease allows for a 5 day grace period for rent payment, he has informed us that if the rent is not paid by the 1st of next month he would start the eviction procedure again. he told us that he bought the house because he wanted to keep the neighborhood to a certain standard and that we were not keeping that standard. my wife happens to be the only Black individual on the entire block. coincidence? this man is just mean. he is spiteful.
unless you are an old person who keeps to him/herself, does not stay up late and doesn't enjoy gardening, BBQs or friends coming over to visit, please do not rent from this individual. |
