[17-Apr-2014] Taube Management took over our building after my roommates and I were already living in our apartment. Even when compared to the common slumlord situation in New York City, Taube Management is a unique breed of rental disaster. Appearing professional as a bigger name company with superfluously overdressed staff, they are in fact childish, unprofessional, and an embarrassment to anyone who wishes to be taken seriously as a realty company in Manhattan. The front door to our Hell's Kitchen building was easily opened without a key for months. Upon finally addressing the concern, Taube informed tenants they would have one week to pick up a new key, would not be able to make copies, and would have to pay a ridiculous fee for each additional key. Taube also refused to repair the buzzer and intercom system in the building for several months, citing they would not fix the problem until the city issued a deadline. Tenants on every floor of the walkup would have to go downstairs to let in visitors, not able to communicate with the person was requesting entry. Initial polite requests for repair were virtually ignored. Taube also did not properly outline the problem to the locksmith hired eventually to fix it, delaying the process even more. The building was also far cleaner prior to their taking over management responsibilities, and the small laundry facility in the basement is now regularly out of order. Considering the insane cost of rent (and that they are pushing out tenants left and right by raising the monthly costs by 25% or more), their unprofessional behavior is unforgivable. It is not worth dealing with them, even if HK is your ideal neighborhood. Spend the time you would spend on 311 trying to persuade Taube to do their job on finding an apartment with a different company. They are SCUMlords. |
