[04-Jan-2019] When my partner and I were moving out, Mike attempted to send a illegitimate vacant notice and started to accuse us of not giving him notice of vacating when we literally just found out our application to a new duplex was accepted. He started to accuse me and my partner of unjustified claims, he stated things like “judges don’t like when tenants don’t pay” when my partner and I, after consulting a lawyer, we’re doing everything by the books. When we did try to give him notice he refused to open or sign the certified mail. It was Mike that tried to manipulate us to get more money out of us. He showed up drunk and late to the move-out inspection that he did without us. He also had some strange woman show up and accompany him, once again drunk, and he waited till the last day of the 30 day period to send us our security deposit. For the five years we were his tenants he would show up on the property often and would come into our apartment to show us how to close windows or where to put our plants while we would be getting ready for work or preparing to leave. When the pipes busted and feces started filling the downstairs apartment bathroom he originally told us and the downstairs tenants to use the bathroom at QT. No shower and no toilet. He did not properly sanitize the building from that incident. He would often speak negatively of us to other tenants - even though there were no damages to the apartment or the property by us and we received no complaints from the other tenants. We were on time every month with our rent, and my partner and I don’t understand why he treated us in this fashion. He even had the nerve, after trying to manipulate us, to try and use us as references for future tenants. We will not rent from him again and warn others that if you want a semi-invasive landlord, that will try to manipulate you for his benefit then he is your man. He did repair items, for the most part - there were items that were not repaired when we moved in that he would randomly bring up years after moving in. He also would state things like ‘you need to pick up those grocery bags before I take the protective covering off of your new dishwasher’. (Which we interpreted as ransom.) He seems like a good guy, but after experiencing him for five years we were eager to get away from him.
