[01-May-2019] Want to live a nightmare in the comfort of your own home? Look no further. You’ve just found the right Slumlord to rent from!! I rented this unit from Maria for 4 years and through the four years I’ve been battling utility repairs with this lady. She would send her husband Jerry to my house whom I should mention is not certified in any kind of repairwork (at least 50 times in the last four years. Every month, sometimes multiple times a month) along with her child as if my place was an open door for anyone to come hang out at. I could never understand what they were saying because they spoke in another language. Sometimes she wouldn’t even give me 24-hours notice. I’d miss work because of her incompetence. Every month something broke down and was never actually repaired and sometimes she would come over promising a repair only to come over and say “oh I’m not repairing today, I’m just coming by to assess” then this would continue on for a few separate occasions with each repair requested. I’d had enough so I called the village inspector who’d come to my home for the inspection. He found multiple issues with the place and actually told me that Maria never called the village to notify them this is a rental property, so I’ve been living in an illegal apartment! In the wintertime the furnace would break down at least every two weeks and her solution was a space heater, which is a HUGE fire hazard! The dryer needed to be replaced, the windows needed to be replaced, the fans in the bathrooms needed to be replaced, the outdoor lights needed to be replaced. Also, the fridge kept breaking down so I decided to call sears repair service since she wasn’t making the repairs. She told me I could not do that because this was “her house”. REALLY LADY THEN MAKE THE REPAIR!! The same day I had the fridge repair guy come she just so happened to bring a “new fridge”. The “new fridge” she brought over is busted. All my food in the fridge was frozen and the ice and water dispenser did not work. The temperature gauge and ice maker switch are not functioning. No water comes out of the water dispenser when activated. Before that, when the fridge broke down other fridge broke down constantly she would bring me a mini fridge that I’d be stuck using until she would make another temporary repair. So finally, after these constant breakdowns and with the inspector aware, after repairs were done (not really because the fridge is still busted) Literally the same day repairs were done- before she leaves my place, Maria has the nerve to ask me when I plan on moving out because NOW she wants to make “renovations to the place”. Exactly a month later, Maria shows up at my door unannounced and hands me a 30 day notice to vacate. She will use your address for her taxes and other important documents, I even see her coming here to pick her kid up on the street corner. She will not give you any privacy at all. There was one occasion that I was outside having a cup of coffee while my dog used the restroom and I saw her right outside about 300 feet away with her new dog.. just watching me – she lives one town over, not in this neighborhood. I stayed here because the area is ideal to live in and the landscaping is nice. But please dear god do yourself a favor and run farrrr away from this landlord from hell!!!
