ADDITIONAL COMMENTS (1)
[25-Jun-2021] I would like to warn future tenants of this man. Michael constantly uses intimidation and threats to get his way. He will not take "no" for an answer and will use verbal insults and threats such as losing guess privileges, parking space, and storage space which is illegal. He does not uphold the lease unless it benefits him. For example, he claims that he can end all overnight guests; but in the lease, it states I can have an overnight guest for two nights. He denies this. I then practice one of the articles in the lease stating I can terminate my lease with a 30-day notice and he goes and states that I am bound by the lease. He claims he believes in the "spirit" of the lease and not the letter which ends up being his interpretation of it.

Michael is always attempting to open the door to my room and constantly pesters for it. Once again, when I say no he threatens to take privileges away from me. When these issues are brought up he will deny all claims even though he clearly states them in the previous emails.


The rental unit is presented as sharing the townhouse, but really it's just the room. The landlord creates a hostile and awkward environment and repeatedly blamed me for messes that were not created by me. He also set up traps to try to catch me using his paper towels or opening his door, which I never did. Overall he is an unreasonable person and difficult to rent from.

I would advise anyone who rents from him to keep a log of all the incidents and to not let him bully you from what is clearly stated in the lease and California Law. I would also advise to look over the lease clearly, as it is very basic and vague, and make sure it is more comprehensive and clear before signing.
