[19-Sep-2021] DO NOT RENT from either Veronica Demers, or her mother Anna (our actual landlord). Never received a copy of my lease even after being there for over a year. Nothing was EVER repaired in a timely manner. When I spoke up about a ceiling tile that fell, due to rain coming in through the siding that was falling apart, I was told it "was just cosmetic damage". Oh, so the MOLDED, ROTTED WOOD in our kitchen ceiling is cosmetic? What about the squirrel that got in through the fallen ceiling tile? This property also had bats, mice, and bat bugs (similar to bed bugs only they don't burrow thank GOD). Fireplaces not properly closed off so constantly have soot, dirt and who knows what else falling into our apartment. We also went nearly the entire winter without heat (having to use window plastic and space heaters which drove up our electric bill), as Veronica (the property manager for her mother Anna) never got around to getting the heating system "fixed" until mid-January. That's illegal in Massachusetts. It worked for a few months but now we're back to having no hot water. We can take a shower in lukewarm water for maybe 5 minutes before it gets unbearably cold. I've brought all these issues up to Veronica multiple times. My concerns are NEVER taken seriously and barely any repairs done. Only reason she started getting the siding "fixed" is because the pest guy (for the squirrel) said something about it. Even then, the "fix" was patchwork. Didn't replace the siding (which all needs to be redone), just covered the obvious holes. Oh also, the 3rd apartment in the back has structural damage. You can see one of the walls bowing out, and the windows on the second floor have all started breaking, due to the building leaning. A washer and dryer was provided in the unit but it takes about 3-4 hours (and therefore MUCH more electricity which we are responsible for paying) to dry ONE load of laundry. Again, concerns brought to the property manager, nothing done yet again.
RENTERS BEWARE. DO NOT RENT FROM VERONICA OR ANNA DEMERS. Anna also has multiple other children that manage her properties so DO NOT RENT FROM ANYONE NAMED DEMERS WITHOUT SOME SERIOUS RESEARCH.
