[15-Oct-2013] She maintains an apartment that has black mold in the ceiling. Whenever it would rain it would drip down the walls. There was no ventilation in the shower, so taking a hot shower would mean letting the mold grow there overnight. Marilyn refused to even acknowledge the proplem, simply telling me to clean it myself. She lied about my concerns when I moved in, saying that the apartment was sound proofed from the downstairs store, it was not. She ignored me when i questioned her about it. She did not do a walkthrough when i moved in, so I took pictures of all the faults. The floors were filthy, the prior tenants were still moving out, there were burn marks in the carpet and tile, 4 light switches didn't work, and several window screens were missing or torn. Not to mention the brown mildew spots that i noticed appearing in the bedroom ceiling. Despite the evidence of all of that, and the fact that she had no move in sheet, she decided to do her walkthrough inspection after i moved out by herself. I left her a voicemail stating that I wanted to be present for it, which I can legally demand, and it seems that she ignored it. She wouldn't even get the keys from me! She never responded to my texts, calls, and voicemails over several weeks. It took her 41 days to give me my deposit back, but it wasn't even near the amount. She had taken off $295 for upkeep. Most of the list were things that were bad when I moved in, which I have proof of. Other things were expenses for regular landlord maintenance, including her pay for being there, 3 hours at $35 per hour. I will now be taking her to court and getting the health department involved because she seems to just screw people for one lease, when that's over she goes in and paints over the mold that is visible at the moment, and tries to get another victim to move in.
THIS LADY IS INSANE.
DO NOT RENT FROM HER, EVER. Not just because of all of the faults I've listed, but for your own health and safety. Living in a small area that is infested by mold and who knows what else can be extremely damaging to you. Myself and my roommate both fell victim to severe upper respiratory infections by the time we moved out. We even had to wear face masks over our mouths and noses towards the end.
